Mammoetblad

Indrukwekkend.

Lactogenic activity of rats stimulated by Gunnera perpensa L. (Gunneraceae) from South Africa. Simelane MB1, Lawal OA, Djarova TG, Musabayane CT, Singh M, Opoku AR.
Gunnera perpensa L. (Gunneraceae) is a medicinal plant used by Zulu traditional healers to stimulate milk production. The effect of an aqueous extract of the rhizome of the plant on milk production in rats was investigated. Female lactating rats that received oral doses of the extract of G.perpensa significantly produced more milk than controls. The plant extract did not however, significantly influence the levels of prolactin, growth hormone, progesterone, cortisol, ALT, AST and albumin in the blood. The mammary glands of rats treated with the extract showed lobuloalveolar development. The extract (0.8 µg/ml) was also found to stimulate the contraction of the uterus and inhibit (23%) acetylcholinesterase activity. The cytotoxicity of the extract (LC₅₀) to two human cell lines (HEK293 and HepG2) was 279.43 µg/ml and 222.33µg/ml, respectively. It is inferred that the plant extract exerts its activity on milk production and secretion by stimulating lobuloalveolar cell development and the contraction of myoepithelial cells in the alveoli. It is concluded that Gunnera perpensa contains constituents with lactogenic activity that apparently contribute to its effectiveness in folk medicine.

The EP extracted with a 55% ethanol at 55℃ contained 22.3 ±1.0 mg gallic acid equivalent/g DW of total phenolic compounds and 86.0 ± 4.6 mg quercetin equivalent/g of flavonoid content.
Echinacea-tinctuur maken in 2 fasen
Afvullen in bvb bruine 50cc flesjes.

The chemical components of plants can be divided into two categories: primary and secondary metabolites. Primary metabolites are essential for life processes or provide important structural elements for the plant. The utility to the plant of many secondary metabolites is unknown, although
some are thought to have a defensive or adaptive role for the plant in its natural environment. Most of the active components found in medicinal plants fall into the category of secondary metabolites. However, polysaccharides are generally primarymetabolites. Their functions include structural
elements beneath the cell wall and carbohydrate storage molecules. Because of their important role in primary metabolism, all plants contain polysaccharides. Moreover, the levels found in Echinacea preparations are not high when compared to mushrooms and other accumulators of polysaccharides, such as Althaea officinalis and Aloe species.

The lipophilic components of Echinacea species comprise two main groups, the polyacetylenes and
the alkylamides. The occurrence of polyacetylenes (polyenes) is typical of the Asteraceae family, in which the highest levels are usually found in the roots. E. pallida root contains significant levels of some unique polyacetylenes, namely the ketoalkynes and ketoalkenes, which do not occur in the other Echinacea species. These compounds give E.pallida root a unique earthy-metallic taste which makes it easy to differentiate.
Alkylamides are not common plant constituents. Most compounds have been found to occur in two tribes of the Asteraceae. Many alkylamides (particularly isobutylamides) have been isolated from the roots and aerial parts of E. angustifolia and E. purpurea , but they are largely absent from E. pallida.
Since the alkylamides cause the characteristic tingling sensation on the tongue, it is therefore not surprising that E. pallida lacks this property. The alkylamides in Echinacea are composed of a highly unsaturated carboxylic acid (often with triple carbon-carbon bonds) and an amine compound, either isobutylamine or 2-methylbutylamine. It is possible this bond between the acid and the amine is broken during digestion, and the true active entity from these compounds is the carboxylic acid.
Being highly unsaturated, both the polyacetylenes and the alkylamides are prone to oxidation, although they are probably somewhat protected in the natural plant matrix. Nonetheless, Echinacea roots should not be stored in powdered form for prolonged periods.

Much of the confusion about Echinacea has arisen from misinterpretation or overemphasis of the polysaccharide research. Statements such as: “Echinacea will not be immunologically active if given as an ethanolic extract,” or “Echinacea is a T cell activator,” or “Echinacea is contraindicated in AIDS,” have all arisen from an overly enthusiastic interpretation of the pharmacological literature pertaining to Echinacea polysaccharides. It is worthwhile to examine what pharmacological studies on Echinacea polysaccharides do say and consider the relevance, if any, of these to the normal use of Echinacea in the English-speaking world.

Conclusions
The importance of polysaccharides to the activity of most Echinacea preparations has been misinterpreted and over-emphasized. Traditional ethanolic extracts of Echinacea do not rely on polysaccharides for their activity.....
The several hypotheses that: 1. Echinacea is a T-cell activator; 2. Echinacea will accelerate pathology in HIV/ AIDS; and 3. Arabinogalactan isolated from the Larch is therapeutically equivalent to Echinacea, are not supported by careful analysis of known data.
It is probably appropriate to include a quote from Bauer and Wagner, since most of this article is based on their research.
“The immunological investigations conducted to date permit the following conclusions. Lipophilic alkylamides as well as the polar caffeic acid derivative, cichoric acid, probably make a considerable contribution to the immunostimulatory action or activity of alcoholic Echinacea extracts."

Springerig zaad

The common names Policeman's Helmet, Bobby Tops, Copper Tops, and Gnome's Hatstand all originate from the flowers being decidedly hat-shaped. Himalayan Balsam and Kiss-me-on-the-mountain arise from the fact that the plant originates in the Himalayan mountains.
The species name glandulifera comes from the Latin words glandis meaning 'gland', and ferre meaning 'to bear', in that the plant has glands that produce a sticky, sweet-smelling, and edible nectar.
Impatiens balsamina L. (Balsaminaceae) is an annual herb which originated in Asia. The whole plant has been used as indigenous medicine in Taiwan for the treatment of rheumatism, swelling and fingernail inflammation. Modern pharmacological studies have reported this plant demonstrating antifungal, antibacterial, antitumor, antipruritic and antianaphylactic activities [5, 6]. The active compounds isolated from this plant include peptides (Ib-AMP1-4) from seeds, quinones[1, 4-naphthoquinone, lawsone, 2-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (MeONQ), balsaquinone, impatienol, naphthalene-1,4-dione] from petals, pericarp and aerial parts, and flavonoids (kaempferol, quercetin, rutin, astragalin, nicotiflorin, naringenin and their derivatives) from petals and leaves [5–8].

Infection with Helicobacter pylori is strongly associated with gastric cancer and gastric adenocarcinoma. WHO classified H. pylori as a group 1 carcinogen in 1994. In this study, we isolated anti-H. pylori compounds from this plant and investigated their anti- and bactericidal activity. Compounds of 2-methoxy-1,4-naphthoquinone (MeONQ) and stigmasta-7,22-diene-3β-ol (spinasterol) were isolated from the pods and roots/stems/leaves of I. balsamina L., respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) for MeONQ were in the ranges of 0.156–0.625 and 0.313–0.625 μg mL−1, respectively, and in the ranges of 20–80 μg mL−1 both of MICs and MBCs for spinasterol against antibiotic (clarithromycin, metronidazole and levofloxacin) resistant H. pylori. Notably, the activity of MeONQ was equivalent to that of amoxicillin (AMX). The bactericidal H. pylori action of MeONQ was dose-dependent. Furthermore, the activity of MeONQ was not influenced by the environmental pH values (4–8) and demonstrated good thermal (121°C for 15 min) stability. MeONQ abounds in the I. balsamina L. pod at the level of 4.39% (w/w db). In conclusion, MeONQ exhibits strong potential to be developed as a candidate agent for the eradication of H. pylori infection.

Verdronken kruidenboeken

Alain Renaux

Berenklauwkoekjes

Gewone berenklauw, Heracleum sphondylium.

Ik lees: 'All the plant parts have refreshing and tonic properties, but the inflorescence and, especially, the seeds also have a curative power similar to ginseng, which it exceeds in many ways. The seeds of this plant are one of the strongest hormonal stimulus and sexual tonic in the world flora.
Hogweed seeds restore biological youth and fertility, regulate the activity of the nervous system, help restore functional capacity of the kidneys, prevent and combat high blood pressure with an extraordinary high efficiency, with many other uses.'

140g boter
150g suiker
1 eidooier
1 eetlepel suikerbietenstroop
150 gr tarwemeel
halve eetlepel bakpoeder
1 eetlepel gember
1 eetlepel bereklauwzaadjes Heracleum sphondylium
1 eetlepel kaneel
